Hey guys, I'm struggling to get my printer to be detected by anything other than my windows 7 pc and even on that pc i cant get cura 15.04 or 2.3.1 to work (2.4 doesn't work on win7). i have tried a win10 desktop, win10 laptop and a ubuntu laptop (latest updates) all with cura 15.04 and the newest cura available for each of the platforms. any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

baudrate should be set to 25000. Make sure you choose the right com port. You can try downloading pronterface to see if it connects to that ok. I heard of someone who had trouble with the cable, if you have a spare(which, weirdly this guy had, I've never even seen a cable like that before.) you an try it.

alright thanks, lucy also said it only works with win 7 64 bit so Im setting up a pc with 64 bit win7. i happen to have a few of those cables, they are the same type as used on many paper printers as well as arduino.

I happen to be using a windows 7 laptop and it worked first time at the baud rate suggested by 3dprnitingmeathead. I only tried to connect via USB once and that was to troubleshoot my broken switch using pronterface, which worked and helped to find the problem. Normally I slice in Cura and copy the files to the SD card and move it to the printer. Good luck on getting going.

yea i just thought it would be better to have a computer hooked up but i guess not. i found out that repetier also works from what i can tell on all computers as well. Hooking up a computer doesn't really change much performance wise. It just lets you control the same stuff you can with the display, plus enter commands. The printer processor still executes all the commands, so printing off USB or we will yield the same results. As far as features go, octopi is a great tool to add web control and webcam and others, but it still prints from the 8bit board, which has its limitations. I noticed a huge increase and features, a dramatic decrease in sound levels, and lost all ringing and zebra stripes when I went to a duet wifi board.its expensive but worth it. Other than a board change I prefer to print off SD over USB because it's one less cord plugged in and one less window open on my computer, and I don't have to put my printer anywhere near my computer. More freedom, I feel.

Hey guys, I know I'm a bit late posting this, just got my DP5 on Friday and was looking at ways to calibrate the extruder and stumbled on a very interesting youtube clip, and a mention of MatterControl software. In Cura 2.6 on Win 10 pro, neither of my rigs would see the printer, well lo and behold downloaded MatterControl, and followed the instructions and everything is communicating fine, which means that calibrating is a breeze, now all I have to do is find out why I'm not getting extrusion. www.mattercontrol.com/
