It was tough finding this at first, since the printer doesn't have the standard i3 lead screw/guide rail alignment, but I narrowed it down to the migbot spacing. Here's the stl: www.thingiverse.com/thing:882577

Mine is kind of floppy, what kind of improvement does this make?

belt tension stops overshoot of the axis. When the motor tells the hot end to stop, and there's slack in the belt, the hot end will continue to travel with it's own momentum until the slack in the belt is stretched tight. It really throws off dimensional accuracy and causes you to print slower. Makes a lot of ringing artifacts on your prints too.

The Migbot idler moves the belt centered between the two linear rods. The belt isn't centered on the other side of the idler, have you found another piece that pairs with it?
My new x carriage also has the belt centered, I haven't installed it yet because I don't want the belt to be on a diagonal.

The migbot is the only design I've ever found that matches the rod locations. Kinda leaves me with few options to straighten it out. 1) try to re-design the idler mount pulley, but there doesnt look like there's much room to move it around. 2) print out the other side of the x axis. More work to install, but less work to design.

That tensioner works pretty damn well on the dp5, but it's not a perfect alignment of the belt. If nobody told me about it, it would have been alright, I'm not losing any performance or dimensional accuracy. But I know about it now, and it mocks me. So I'm fixing this once and for all. Stay tuned, because in a few days I'll have a working i3 conversion up. I've been wanting to do this anyway, so I can sneak a drag chain behind the lead screws. That extra 5mm makes a difference. So this was just icing on the cake. Let's face it, there's just so many more options for the i3 than the migbot. It'll be worthwhile for me to just convert. Convert I say!

That would involve new idlers and z stepper mounting brackets and... that's it? I haven't been playing with my printer because I don't have the time to tackle this right now. Next time my X axis comes off for part replacements I'm swapping out everything at once. I have a new hotend and fan on deck, might have a BLTouch by the time I take a stab at it.

Well, you've seen my update video, but others might have not. New z motor brackets, new z top brackets, new idler and motor x mounts. I finally found out why the belt is lower. It's because of the damn x endstop. you wouldn't want the belt coming close to the endstop bolts, so they made the whole x belt lower to accommodate. But after that, you can use whatever i3 accessories you want without issue. The only thing that stands out is the clearance between the bed and the z rails looks smaller than an i3, so I'd recommend sticking to slim x carriages with this printer. Oh yea, and feel free to edit any of the brackets after I post them. I suck at CAD, not gonna lie.

I aw this the other day, but forgot to post it here. Definitely this! this is way easier than the other one, you wouldnt even need to remove the idler bracket to install it.

I've spoke to mexusbg, he's another DP5 owner and he said we can repost any of his designs here. This tensioner looks like a winner and his fan holder and hot end holder look good too.

I like the second design posted but it says it needs a longer belt, does anyone know how long of a belt I would need or where to buy it?
