A few weeks ago, I was contacted by DMS about helping DMS upgrade the DP5, as well as set up tutorials and fine tune the firmware.
This expanding relationship with DMS creates a major challenge for me, as my printer is so heavily modified I can no longer even call it a DP5. We are currently working on a solution to that problem, as well as an overhaul of the printer's design and firmware.
DMS has also asked me to create unboxing, assembly, and slicer tutorials specifically for the DP5 that they wish to use on their aliexpress page. Furthermore, I have enlisted the services of a friend that is fluent in russian to translate subtitles for my video tutorials.
My relationship with DMS will not be monetary, but a gratuity may be sent to me for my efforts in improving the DP5.
I wish I could disclose more about the improvements being made to the DP5, but since we are still ironing out the details before beta-testing, we would rather not announce anything that may not get done, at least not this time around.
I will disclose this though: One of the planned upgrades is to the part cooling fan. I wish to convert it into something like this one: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2020029
Please note the axial fan design is the one I wish to use. These fans move a lot more air than radial fans do, and I feel they are the preferred style of fan for this application.
As of right now, my biggest concern is that the design I make will be untested on a DP5 and may not perform as well as I hope in application.
So here it is:
3d printing communities are all about improving the product. I will leave the STL for the original part cooling fan mount on a new post on my blog. If anyone feels like modifying it for the community to inspect and test, please feel free. I know we have many users here that are a lot more talented in CAD than I am, and I feel the community should have input on the final design. I propose we let it run for as long as we feel we need, and if we agree on a wining design, one that really performs, that design will make it into the upgrade, with recognition for the design in the form of your own logo embossed on the housing. You would have to allow DMS to use your design for commercial purposes though. This will be for the fan only though, I wish to reserve the right to modify the rest of the housing, as other options for sensors might come into play.
As this is a printer community, please feel free to comment if you disagree with this concept. After All I see on reddit praising the Maker select(wanhao i3), then watch board after board burn up due to poor design, I would like to see the DP5 take a strong hold on the affordable printer market, as an actually safe and reliable printer. And with a few modifications, I feel that can be accomplished. If the community wishes to contribute, that will be great.
